For those who have made comments about her "dancing" on stage...I would wager you that she is unaware just as many are unaware of facial movements. Many musicians become near trancelike when they play. Milstein had an almost metronome like quality that he seemed to suppress. Heifetz on the other hand stood like a stone. If it enables her to play like she does I say go for it! I tend to move around myself too, when I practice I PACE the house

I agree with OriginalMoonbeam, I´m a musician, and such involuntary movements such as dancing or facial expressions become reflexes, and therefore part of the music and the performance. People should be concerned with appreciating the music, and not on how much performers move on stage. Mozart was know to make quite a spectacle on stage anyways.
P.S. She´s cute in any case

When people dance around on stage, they give the impression they are producing something they are not. Actually if you just listen and don't watch you realise how boring it is is. Vengerov is the prime example of this...
On the other hand Heifetz used to be critisized for not moving and people say he is cold... But actually if you just listen to heifetz, he produces so much emotion...

The University of California, Berkley is currently conducting a study regarding persons with perfect pitch--it is EXTREMLEY rare. RELATIVE pitch is more common in musicians. You may participate by first being tested on line. Working in a recording studio I have not ever met a person whose claim of perfect pitch has been substantiated though relative pitch has been. Most conductors and composers do not possess perfect (absolute)pitch. It is considered an anomaly.

The world has been blessed with one Perlman and happily a Ms. Jansen. I don't think it is her objective to snag his style as she has her own, which is lovely in its own right. I am most grateful that all violinist don't aspire to sound like one another and we have variety.

yea alot of people in music actually claim perfect pitch but they are almost ALAWYS exaggerating..VERY few actually have true perfect pitch. I know someone that has one note memorized and through that can solfeg out to any other note, he thinks that he has perfect pitch but it's not. In fact true perfect pitch is quite detrimental toa musician or especially composer as it hinders the much more essential ability of relative pitch.

I think dijkie12 is referring to the advice Perlman gave to Salerno-Sonnenberg - that she sometimes let the violin point to the ground, which could affect the sound. Perlman himself follows the old masters and keeps the violin level.

You should really keep the instrument up at all times, but I'm not sure how this would affect a master. Actually, it's nice to hear an interpretation from somebody who might have have a different idea in how the music might be presented. The positioning of the instrument may not be an entirely bad idea.
