In United States all you get is Republican and Democrat and they are two cheeks of the same arse. Here in theUK we get Labour and Conservative, but there is barely any difference. Well obviously. There IS a trade embargo that has been imposed by the U.S. since 1962. Life in Britain during the war was pretty bad because we had Germany threatening us, just like the U.S., the dominant power of the area, threatening Cuba. It's effectively a siege economy. Blame successive U.S. governments, not Castro.

I understand what you're saying, but as it always happens everywhere.The little people are the one who suffer the most, no the people in power, they have the necesary things to live some kind of normal live.Beside the good and bad things Fidel has done, I don't think he should have remained in power for so many years with comple control of everything in Cuba.

Fidel is one of the many who realise that capitalism only results in a hierarchy of a corporate elite and as a result of that, ignorance in most others. Striving for profit becomes more important than morality the rest of society. Fidel recognises this and that industry can br a service to people instead of being their master. The government should be the peoples government not the corporations' government through mass bribery.

I think the point is Cuba is very progressive in someways, though behind in others. ie; the system of government could be more democratic. However this country survived an oil crisis, which we are all going to have to face. Is the only sustainable country on earth, provide more foreign aid in the form of doctors than any other country, and free education-healthcare. I think we can ALL learn from Cuba, let's hope Venezuala turns out just as well. Together, I can see latin america very prosperous.

2. "Sustainable country"? Cuba imports over 85% of it food and goods.
3. "Free" education? You have to work in the cane fields.
4. Healthcare is "free" too. You just have to ask a family member in the US to send you the medical supplies (bring your sheets, toilet paper and other supplies at the "free" hospital).
5. I absolutely agree with you that we can all learn from Cuba; how NOT to run a country.

1. Cuba had no oil for ten years, due to the embargo. I said we will all have to face it, ie; HASNT HAPPENED YET. But it's going to. Oil won't last forever. 2. Not anymore, this isnt 1993.

Wrong again. Cuba imports the vast majority of goods because the "Castro system" does not work!
More schools do not equal free education. YOU HAVE TO WORK IN THE FIELDS. When are you going to learn that there is nothing "free"? Speaking of rights; Human Rights Watch clearly states that they (Cuba) are the most violators of such. You are the idiot if you would trade any resemblence of freedom (which you currently enjoy) for a "free" education. LIVE it then talk about it from way down under.
