History shows that the West is quite good at imposing its views. The West already imposed nationalism on the Middle East. There's really no reason to believe that democracy can't survive there in some form, especially given the relative success of Turkey.
We don't need to "run the show". It just can't be Saddam/Khamenei/Qadaffi, etc.
